This valve is for  water and ice service ice maker systems THAT HAVE WATER FILTERS EMBEDDED IN THE REFRIGERATOR BY MANUFACTURER DESIGN and is part of a two valve system. This part is commonly referred to as the primary or introductary valve. Many call and ask how do you know when either valve is bad? I have never bothered to go that far in replacing these locally, and have always made a practice of replacing this and it's counterpart 12544101 at the same time.
